Targeted therapy represents a revolutionary approach in cancer treatment, focusing

How Targeted Therapy Works:
Targeted therapies work by identifying and attacking specific proteins or genes that
contribute to the growth and survival of cancer cells. Unlike traditional chemotherapy,
which affects all rapidly dividing cells, targeted therapies are tailored to block the
actions of cancer-causing molecules or pathways. This precision helps to inhibit
cancer cell growth, promote apoptosis (cell death) and shrink tumours.
Types of Targeted Therapies:

- 3. Angiogenesis Inhibitors: These medications block the formation of new blood vessels that tumours need to grow, often used in cancers like renal cell carcinoma and certain types of breast cancer.
- 4. PARP Inhibitors: These drugs interfere with the ability of cancer cells to repair DNA damage, particularly effective in cancers with BRCA mutations, such as ovarian and breast cancers.
